Thomas Memorial Fellowshi<\/strong><\/em><strong><em>p<\/em> <em>is now closed.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>To receive announcements about grant opportunities and other initiatives of interest to the healthcare and scientific community, please <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myositis.org\/join-tma\/]\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sign up for our email list <\/a>as a healthcare practitioner. <\/em><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<p><strong>The Myositis Association\u2019s (TMA) Research Grant Program <\/strong>provides financial support to qualified investigators and clinicians for basic, translational, and clinical research across the spectrum of myositis diseases and specialties with the goal of advancing our understanding of the underlying causes and pathophysiology, means of prevention, early detection, accurate diagnosis, effective treatments, and methods for curing myositis and related diseases and complications.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2025 grant cycle, TMA offered a fellowship award for a project related to antisynthetase syndrome and interstitial lung disease (ILD).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21893 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myositis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Meridith-Thomas-241x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"241\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.myositis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Meridith-Thomas-241x300.jpg 241w, https:\/\/www.myositis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Meridith-Thomas-300x374.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.myositis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Meridith-Thomas-64x80.jpg 64w, https:\/\/www.myositis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Meridith-Thomas.jpg 411w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 241px) 100vw, 241px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>TMA\u2019s Meredith Thomas Memorial Fellowship <\/strong>is an award of $107,500 that will be granted for a fellow pursuing a disease-specific, targeted project that meets the following guidelines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advances the understanding of the cause, prevention, detection, treatment, or cure of antisynthetase syndrome and\/or myositis interstitial lung disease.<\/li>\n<li>Treatment may extend beyond medication management into health-related quality of life, such as assessments and interventions that help patients manage physical symptoms, maintain employment, and navigate any mental health or social effects of their illness.<\/li>\n<li>Priority is given to fellows with a sound implementation plan for multidisciplinary, collaborative research.<\/li>\n<li>Priority is given to fellows in rheumatology, pulmonology, critical care, or related fields (neurology, dermatology, and other specialties involved in myositis science and care.<\/li>\n<li>All applicants must exhibit\u00a0demonstrable commitment to antisynthetase syndrome and\/or lung disease as a primary focus within their clinical, research, and career priorities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>TMA fellowships are designed to support early-career physicians, scientists, and investigators who have a career interest in research and\/or clinical practice focused on rare autoimmune disease; hold a terminal degree (MD, MD\/PhD, PhD); and are enrolled in a formal fellowship program with a myositis experienced mentor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grant Application Process<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All letters of intent and applications must be submitted through TMA\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/apply.myositis.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">electronic submissions platform<\/a>. TMA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myositis.org\/research\/tma-grants-fellowships\/\">Research Guidelines<\/a> provide more specific directions and detailed requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Applications require biographical information in <a style=\"font-size: revert;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.myositis.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/NIH-Biosketch.pdf\">NIH Biosketch<\/a> format.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Timeline for the 2025 Research Grant Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Letter of intent due<strong> April 14, 2025\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Invitation for full application by <strong>April 21, 2025<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Full application due<strong> May 19, 2025<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Notification of awards\u00a0<strong>September 2025<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Funding to begin after<strong> November 2025<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Funding Details<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The $107,500 will be disbursed within an 18-to-24 month funding period that is mutually agreed to by the fellow and TMA. The funding period will begin no earlier than November 2025 and no later than June 2026. These funds are intended to include travel support for attendance at TMA\u2019s International Annual Patient Conference, Meredith\u2019s Legacy Fundraiser, and a scientific or medical conference of the fellow\u2019s choice in which they are reporting on this work.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>About\u00a0The Myositis Association<\/strong><br \/>The Myositis Association is the leading international nonprofit organization committed to the global community of people living with myositis, their care partners, family members, and the medical community.
